Shelly has had the pleasure of working in the healthcare field for the past fifteen years. After earning her ADN-RN with John Tyler Community College School of Nursing, she soon discovered her first passion, Emergency Medicine. For thirteen years, Shelly has worked as a staff nurse in the Adult Emergency Department for VCU Health System. The rumors are true, she can honestly say, there is never a dull moment!
While pursuing her RN-BSN with VCU School of Nursing, Shelly accepted a position as a Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) with VCU Health System. For the past eleven years, she has discovered her second passion, advocating and caring for victims of violent crimes. As a Forensic Nurse Examiner Team Coordinator and a Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Adults and Adolescents, Shelly conducts numerous educational speaking engagements and trainings annually not only throughout the VCU Health System but also throughout the community and public school system as well. Shelly thrives as an educator, which had led her to realize her third passion, nursing education.
Shelly received her Master's in Nursing Education from ODU School of Nursing. For six years, she worked as adjunct faculty for VCU School of Nursing. Her classroom and clinical teaching experiences continue to challenge herself both professionally and academically through her commitment to lifelong learning and advancement of nursing practice.
