Maureen Moslow-Benway
Maureen Moslow-Benway is an award-winning Assistant Professor in the Homeland Security Emergency Preparedness Department at Virginia Commonwealth University where she teaches courses on Human Trafficking, Intelligence, Terrorism and Counterterrorism. Prior to entering academia, Moslow-Benway spent almost two decades in federal law enforcement as a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, and as a national security consultant to the National Reconnaissance Office and Booz Allen Hamilton. Moslow-Benway has a B.S. in International Affairs from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a M.A. in Asian Studies from the University of the Philippines. Moslow-Benway first became aware of human sex trafficking while stationed in the Philippines as a young Second Lieutenant. It was an issue she became very passionate about after legally adopting a young, Filipino child sex trafficking victim. While at Virginia Commonwealth University, Moslow-Benway created a service learning course on Human Trafficking that has quickly become one of most popular elective classes. To date, her students have contributed more than 1,000 volunteer hours to human trafficking non-profits in the Richmond region and many of them plan to pursue careers combating trafficking. Moslow-Benway is a sought after speaker on human trafficking and has lectured to hospitals, churches, other universities, foreign exchange students and local businesses. Moslow-Benway is a member of the Richmond Regional Collaborative on Human Trafficking and as such has built relationships with key personnel in federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, victim services, non-profits, as well as in the medical and legal communities. As a result of these relationships, Moslow-Benway has been able to bring local NGO leaders, human trafficking survivors, a former pimp as well as FBI, HSI and local Vice Squad agents to meet with her students.
