Leslie Rubio is a political activist, advocate and volunteer for several grassroots organizations in Virginia. In 2014 she was appointed by the Governor as a citizen member to the Board of Medicine-Acupuncture Advisory Council. She is the founder of Women Matter, a non-profit that seeks to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in Virginia and is a board member of The Women’s Mercury; empowering women through theater and performing arts. She serves on the board for NARAL, an org. whose focus is to protect women’s reproductive freedoms. She is a volunteer with Safe Harbor, and is a first responder to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through their Regional Hospital Accompaniment Response Team. Leslie is an active member of her civic association and can be heard on local, independent radio station 93.9 WRWK FM, as the host of H.E.R. (Human Equal Rights with a focus on her) facilitating discussions on human trafficking, women in prison, and other topics that focus on the unequal and marginalized treatment of women; socially, economically, and in the judicial system. Leslie is passionate about women’s advocacy and recently created a website www.1in5thatsmystory.org for survivors of sexual assault. Leslie lives in Richmond, VA and is the Controller at Premier Appraisal Group, Inc. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1984.
