Kathleen Pugh is a third-year medical student at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, with particular interest in providing culturally competent and trauma-informed care. She received her Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, & Behavior with a minor in Spanish from the University of California, Davis. Her previous work experience is in family medicine and primary care, and her most recent research was on the response of primary care physicians to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also involved with the VCU branch of the HOMBRE medical brigade group and designed a survey-based research project to assess levels of food insecurity in communities abroad. She is an active member of the VCU Students Fighting Human Trafficking club and has been working with other club members to create a trauma-informed care curriculum for first and second-year medical students, as well as educational materials on identifying human trafficking for health care workers. Kathleen plans to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology to pursue her passion for destigmatizing women's health issues.
