DAWN BROOKS, BSW
Dawn Brooks has a bachelor’s in social work from VCU and has been working within the Sexual and Domestic Violence Prevention field for about 6 years. She has a background in facilitating healthy sexuality curricula within schools, the DO YOU Program, and social-emotional learning sessions with young people in a sexual/domestic violence shelter, among other spaces. For the last 3 years, Dawn has been at the Action Alliance as the Youth Justice Coordinator, continuing her work as a Violence Preventionist by partnering with VCU to work on projects under a grant that seeks to decriminalize black and brown girls. Together, they have facilitated an art-based program called DO YOU to promote the resiliency of girls who are system-involved. They have also trained professionals in trauma-informed care who also work with system-involved youth. She’s very grateful to be here with folks who are also dedicated to this work!
